andymorley's pomes | THE SECOND LEAVING

Death and Destruction argued by the door,
Which of them would pay that heavy bill,
Mine Host sedately added up the score,
Caressing fingers resting on his till...

Plague and Famine had far less to say,
Just spread their hungry empire through the land,
And wondring maybe who would win the day,
But always thinking of the job at hand.

Gluttony and Sloth played one last round,
While Carnage stretched as far as eye could see,
And Lechery caressed without a sound,
As Peeping Tom craned further just to see...

The Serpent writhed its coils around fair Eve,
Preparing for a second time to leave...
